ASL - American Sign Language
ASL 101 Introduction to American Sign Language (3 Credit Hours)
This course builds the foundations for the American Sign Language (ASL) experience. It introduces the beginning ASL vocabulary, grammar, visual-gestural
communication, use of idioms and their overall conversational skills. Emphasis is placed on the development of signing skills in a supportive classroom atmosphere along with interaction with the Deaf community. ASL 101 also includes an examination of the cultural values and rules of behavior of the Deaf community in the US and develops an understanding and appreciation of Deaf culture.
May be repeated for credit.
