Minor Description
The athletic coaching minor is open to any undergraduate student at the University of New England. The minor is offered through the Westbrook College of Health Professions and is directly administered through the Department of Exercise and Sports Performance.
The minor is interdisciplinary in nature and draws from courses from the Department of Sport Management and School of Education.
The minor provides a comprehensive and meaningful academic program for students wishing to pursue coaching at the youth and college level.
The minor provides expert knowledge following the eight domains from the National Standards for Sports Coaches: Philosophy and Ethics, Safety and Injury Prevention, Physical Conditioning, Growth and Development, Teaching and Communication, Sport Skills and Tactics, Organization and Administration, and Evaluation.

Prerequisite – four credit Laboratory Science course

Prerequisite EXS 312 Foundations of Coaching and students are required to pass a coaching certification and complete CPR and First Aid prior to taking the Coaching Practicum

A course substitution is allowed per permission of the Coordinator of the Coaching Minor
Students are required to earn a minimum grade of a "C" in all courses with an ATC or EXS prefix. Students are only able to retake a course one time.
