Accelerated Dual-Degree Bachelor’s/JD at UMaine Law Pathway Program
The University of New England offers an accelerated Bachelor’s/Juris Doctor program for students who wish to complete a UNE bachelor’s degree and a University of Maine Juris Doctor degree in six years rather than the typical seven by applying credits earned in the first year of law school to their bachelor’s degree. This joint program allows students to eliminate one year of undergraduate education, save a year of undergraduate tuition, and enter their chosen professional field one year earlier.
Undergraduate Program Requirements
To qualify for this program, UNE students must:
- Regularly meet with their advisor(s)
- Apply to Maine Law before the end of the junior year and prior to any deadline established by Maine Law, including submitting the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score
- Complete all major and Nor’easter Core requirements before the start of their senior year having earned at least 90 credits
Students are not guaranteed admission to Maine Law. The bachelor’s degree will be conferred upon successful completion of the first year at Maine Law with the following requirements:
- Earn a grade of C- or better in all courses of the 1L curriculum (please refer to the Maine Law website to find the 1L curriculum).
- Transfer the courses back to the University of New England.
- Successfully complete steps above to gain automatic exemption from the University of New England’s Residency Requirements.
Acceptance into the Marine Affairs 3+3 (J.D. at UMaine Law pathway program) does not guarantee acceptance into the University of Maine School of Law.
